5 Reasons to Visit Squamish
What’s better than a weekend surrounded by mountains you ask? A weekend surrounded by mountains AND lots of things to do! Squamish, BC, is a little town nestled between gigantic sprawling mountains, beautiful waterfronts, and right by one of the best drives of your life.
But is it really worth it to stop in for a day trip or even a weekend? Here’s just a couple reasons why we think Squamish should be up next on your travel list.
We’ll get this one out of the way first because it’s probably the first thing on everyone’s mind when a Sea to Sky trip comes up. But there really is nothing quite like a picnic in Junction Park with The Chief chillin’ in your background. If you’re like us and also on the prowl for the next Instagram moment, Squamish is the place for you.
The great thing about visiting a tight-knit community like Squamish is there is almost always something going on. From Arts Festivals (like ours in July!) to yoga classes to workshops, no matter the day I bet you there’s something on in downtown Squamish. This summer look out for Pinot & Paint, a night of drinking wine and painting the scenery at Norman Rudy’s Pub, or enjoy live music atop the Sea to Sky Gondola at Mountain Music every Friday starting at 6PM. Looking for somewhere to shop? Every Saturday Squamish hosts a Farmer’s Market at the corner of Cleveland and Victoria where you can shop to your heart's content.
Another typical Squamish stereotype - adventure everywhere you turn. And just like the views, this stereotype is all too real. From rock climbing The Chief to paddle boarding at Alice Lake to hiking Shannon Falls, there’s lots of nature to go around. Kick off your summer with the BE Fearless Trail Marathon from Alice Lake on June 2nd to really get the feel for what Hardwired for Adventure means to us.
Once your done climbing a mountain, you’ll be sure to want something to take the edge off - and that’s where Squamish’s world class restaurant scene comes into play. Want a tasty burger and a pitcher of beer? Check out Backcountry Brewing for some local brewed pints and some of the best pub food around. For the the wine-and-dine folk we have The Salted Vine Kitchen + Bar or the scenic patio atop the Sea to Sky Gondola off the highway. Something quick? Check out the many pop-up food trucks throughout the week including Locavore (voted one of BC’s best food trucks) or Mountain Squeeze for a freshly pressed juice.
If you’ve never stayed in Squamish, you are missing out. Whether it’s staying at an Airbnb tucked into the beautiful natural background or it’s at one of our top end hotels or inns, you’re guaranteed a wonderful vacation. Want to be a bit more adventurous? Try camping at Alice Lake, Porteau Cove, or even up The Stawamus Chief! There’s an option for whatever vacation you’re looking for.
Overall, whether it’s a quick trip or a week long vacay, Squamish has everything you need. From thrilling outdoor adventures to vibrant festivals and markets, you’re sure to have a great time.
